I never thought I was the type who would hire a personal trainer. I had always been involved in sports, which kept me in pretty good shape and motivated me to work out on my own. But everything changed two years ago, when I tore up my knee in a rugby game. Not only was my rugby career over, but after being on crutches for months I began to worry that I would NEVER get back to my old athletic self!!

I diligently went to physical therapy for 9 months, as my surgeon had instructed. But eventually I got bored – I mean, let’s face it, gaining a degree or two of knee flexion can only get you SO excited. Even if I couldn’t play rugby again, I wanted to once again feel happy with my body.

That’s when my best friend Melanie, who had been training with Pary for several months, persuaded me to come for a trial session with Erin. I was pretty skeptical at first (especially since they trained at the crack of dawn!), but Melanie stayed on my case until I agreed to come check out Verve.

I will never forget my first session with Erin. Despite the fact that I was a total zombie (did I mention that the session was at 5 am!?), Erin was full of energy. She even broke into a Saturday Night Dance Fever routine at one point! The four of us had a GREAT time together; we laughed our way through the whole workout. And the next day, I had the greatest feeling that I hadn’t felt in months – my muscles were sore!!

As fun as it was, I don’t think any of us thought that I would keep coming for more than a few sessions. I mean, I REALLY like to sleep. But here we are, more than a year later, and I’m still meeting Erin twice a week!

I used to say that NOTHING would get me out of bed before 5 in the morning, but that was before I met Erin. She is encouraging, spunky, patient, creative, energetic, enthusiastic, supportive, reliable, punctual, and HILARIOUS…not to mention that she bakes a mean banana bread and always has the latest scoop on entertainment news! Oh, and she is VERY good at counting.

Seriously, though, Erin has a great knack for being able to read my mood, my energy, and my body to create the perfect workout for me on any given day. I have improved my strength, flexibility, and balance more than I ever thought possible after my injury, and it is DEFINITLY a direct result of Erin’s training. She knows what I am capable of and doesn’t let me get away with less (and believe me, I have tried!)

Erin has also been incredibly patient and flexible with me, putting up with my bizarre work schedule, my strong aversion to bicep curls, my weakness for peanut butter, my torn up gym clothes from the 80’s, my above average flakiness, and, most recently, my morning sickness and expanding waistline.

We joke that Erin will be my trainer until we are in our 70’s. She thinks I’m kidding…
