Many of my friends wonder why, if I live and work in DC, I train in Virginia.  To them, crossing the Potomac is like crossing into another country. OK, I admit it. Sometimes it is for me too.

But in reality it only takes me 5-10 minutes to get to Verve from my office in Foggy Bottom. A big plus is that Verve has parking. The facility is clean and attractive with terrific equipment.  The staff is friendly. And my trainer, Mike Savitch is a real pro. He’s fun to work out with, knows what he’s doing, and is a stickler for form and technique. I totally enjoy my training sessions and, equally important, I’ve seen significant results.

As a physician, I understand the mind-body connection and know that my mental health is very much tied to my physical well-being.  I always encourage my patients to get into a regular exercise routine.  And if they’re like me and have lots of excuses for not getting to the gym or engaging in some type of physical activity, I recommend that they get a personal fitness trainer.  I’ve learned that it’s important for me to have standing appointments to see a trainer as I tend to keep appointments and thereby ensure that I get to the gym on a regular basis.
